Mehndi ceremony before the Indian wedding of Harneet and Rouella at the Sikh Temple in Bothell, WA

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending and photographing the wedding ceremonies of a wonderful couple of people Harneet and Rouella. What was unusual for me was they were married in two different wedding ceremonies, Sikh and Catholic.

On Friday evening they had the traditional Mehndi or henna ceremony where Rouella and many of the women in the family and her friends had henna applied to their hands and in Rouella’s case her feet as well. It was a joyful evening party.

Saturday morning was the wedding ceremony at the Sikh Temple in Bothell,WA. This was the first time I had been present for a Sikh wedding ceremony and it was wonderful and very simple. I am unfamiliar with the traditions of the Sikh religion and seeing their wedding ceremony was a great introduction to the teachings of their gurus. After a meal and a break we headed over to Blessed Sacrament Church in the University District where Rouella and Harneet were married in a Catholic wedding ceremony.

After the wedding at Blessed Sacrament, we all headed over to the Lake Washington Rowing Club for the wedding reception. Here is a taste of some of the pictures we shot over the weekend. There are a whole lot more that need to be edited, but this preview will have to do for now. I would like to thank Megan Keller of a KURANT EVENT for the great work she did organizing and planning the events and  my second photographer Monica Frisell.
