In one of my more unusual weddings this year, Tricia Nason and Ned Rupert were married at the North Cascades Institute Learning Center, the Environmental Learning Center of the North Cascades Institute located on the north shore of Diablo Lake in North Cascades National Park. The weather in the Pacific Northwest around the end of August and beginning of September can be beautiful,  sunny and warm. This year, however, it was cool and rainy. Despite the weather, the Learning Center proved to be a great place for a wedding for those who love the outdoors and Ned and Tricia are a couple of people who have a passion for it. Note the closing pictures of them leaving the wedding reception in a 4 wheel drive vehicle with a canoe on the roof. Their friends and family also have a love of nature and many of them stayed up there with them for a few days before the wedding exploring cascading streams, pristine peaks, wildflower meadows and old-growth forests, and a rich Northwest history that includes more than 8,000 years of Native American culture. “The Learning Center is a hub of discovery for all ages in one of the wildest, most biologically diverse landscapes in North America.” according to their website.

Below are some of the highlights from Ned and Tricia’s  wedding and at the bottom of this post is a mini-gallery slideshow.

The wedding ceremony took place on the covered deck of the main building which serves as the gathering center and cafeteria. It felt like they were getting married in a tree house.

On top of their wedding cake was this representation of Tricia and Ned going over a falls in their canoe.

Tricia’s lovely bouquet of yellow roses.

Towards the end of the reception, instead of dancing, a number of people broke out some board games and had  a great time playing and telling stories.

Getting ready to leave for the honeymoon in the 4-wheel drive canoe topped car.

And they drove off into the sunset heading west.
