The weather on June 19th was kind of overcast, which I like as it gives an even soft light which can be flattering for pictures of a couple on their wedding day. What concerned me was the high probability of rain in the forecast since Derrick Casey and Maria Holsman were getting married in an outdoor ceremony at Kubota Garden and I was not aware of a backup plan in case it turned out to be pouring rain at the anointed hour. Fortuitously it never did rain despite the forecast and the day turned out well. We had great light and made some beautiful pictures from the ceremony and afterwards when we walked around and shot some portraits around the garden before heading out for the reception at the Uptown Hideaway on lower Queen Anne. One of the interesting aspects of their wedding was Derrick and his groomsmen all carried swords. Not sure which legion of swordsmen they belonged to but it made for an interesting wedding party portrait with the swords all unsheathed on a red bridge in the garden.
Above, Maria and her dad just before they waled down the aisle. Here are some of my favorite pictures from the wedding along with a mini web gallery below, at the bottom after these highlights.
I really love this picture of Maria cracking up as we did some bridal portraits. I also really like the two just below of Maria and her bridesmaids outside the Uptown Hideaway. Because of the sloe of the hill it creates an illusion of Maria being much taller than all of the others in the first shot and the exactly the same height as the otheres in the next one.

Kiana Lodge Wedding
April 14th, 2010
Sue and Pepper had an April wedding at the fabulous Kiana Lodge, a perfect setting of six-acres, surrounded by fragrant cedars, majestic firs, more than 30 varieties of rhododendrons, and manicured grounds featuring a spectacular view of Puget Sound from 1,000 feet of private no-bank waterfront. Sue and Pepper are a fun loving couple. Pepper surprised Sue near the end of the reception with a fireworks display on the beach of the lodge. Below are the highlights from their wedding celebration and you will see how happy they were with their day. I returned to Seattle with them on the ferry and got a picture of them dancing on the bow as the ferry arrived into the Seattle dock.

Bonnie and Michael were really in love and with their family and friends present were married in a Jewish ceremony at the The Edgewater Hotel on the waterfront near downtown Seattle. Their day was filled with a lot of love and laughs. The ceremony was touching and their celebration was filled with joy and lots of dancing. The view at the beautiful Edgewater Hotel in Seattle is amazing since the hotel is literally on the edge of the Puget Sound, it sits out on a long pier jutting into Elliot Bay. Below are a few of my favorite images highlighting their wedding day. Although I shot a lot of color, they and I really liked the way the pictures look in black and white. There is a certain timeless look. I am looking forward to shooting more black and white film weddings this year. I just booked one where the couple really like black and white, so I am planning to shoot about half of the images with my pair of Leicas.

I had photographed Mollie and Justin’s engagement in the Seattle Arboretum last year and we had a good time walking around making pictures there and it was fun working with them. Months later then I again had a great time photographing their wedding at Willows Lodge in Woodinville, WA The garden at the Willows Lodge, which is just across from the famous Herb Farm restaurant, is a great location for an outdoor wedding and the ballroom perfect for a reception. Mollie and Justin had a warm, and wonderful wedding there. The wedding ceremony was in the gazebo which was really stunning and was adorned by a beautiful floral arrangement. I like shooting weddings there because there are so many places to go off and do pictures with different backgrounds. The panorama large group portrait was easy to do there as well. I will post it sometime later. Here are some selected highlights and a web gallery with some more just below.

Mollie and Justin asked me to shoot them with this sign for the thank you card they were planning to send out to their guests.

Bella Baby Belly Pictures to Baby Pictures of Baby Harper
January 4th, 2010

Belly Bump Picture made on Sunday…….
…on Tuesday she arrived as a newborn baby. Above baby picture shows bella baby Harper at six days of age. She is so amazing to see. My youngest daughter Claire is now 7 1/2 years old so it has been a while since I have been with such a cute baby. Actually there have been a number of other cute babies since then but each one seems so special.
If you have been following this blog, a few weeks ago Molly and April came into the studio on a Sunday in the beginning of December for a baby belly picture session. Two days later their very bella baby daughter, Harper McAllister Sather was born. After 5 more days later I dropped their house by to make some newborn baby pictures of her to complete the second half of the before and after photos. . Talk about good timing. Here are our first but not our last newborn baby photographs of her. Below are some more baby pictures from the same session. ( Although baby pictures are not very common on this blog, they will occasionally make an appearance. After all, first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes the couple with a baby carriage…..)
Molly with Harper in her arms. I have been returning to photographing with an old Hasselblad and black and white film and I have to say I really enjoy the results. Not that I will give up on digital, but film is back in my arsenal of photographic tools.
I love the baby yawn pictures.

Wedding Photography | Tyee Yacht Club Wedding of Sarah and Judah
December 16th, 2009

This first wedding picture is of the moment just before Judah gets his first look at his bride to be Sarah.
The wedding pictures from Sarah Hess and Judah Stevenson wedding at the Tyee Yacht Club took some tough editing. There were a lot of good ones to choose from but these are the ones I have come down to for posting here. There are ten wedding pictures below and a web gallery at the bottom with a score or more. This was such a wonderful wedding to be a witness and to document. Sarah and Judah are such a creative, thoughtful and beautiful couple. The getaway at the end of their wedding was a special event in itself, a cruise to the Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland via the “Seneca”, a 38 foot, 1958 Chris Craft,

Their wedding cake sat atop a multi tier of cupcakes in different flavors.

Wedding Photography of Josh and Lindsey’s Cincinnati Wedding
May 17th, 2009

Lindsey gets her hair done as her bridesmaid Jess looks on.
Josh and Lindsey were married a week ago in Cincinnati, Lindsey’s home town. they both live in Washington DC and work for Uncle Sam. They had wonderful weather the day of the wedding although it rained on Friday for the rehearsal dinner, the sun came out on Saturday and it allworked out in the end. Today I will begin to post ome of the photos and continue over the next couple of days.
I have finished the edit but still need to scan the wedding panorama and will post that last. The weather here n Seattle today is just too nice to spend too much time on the computer.

Lindsey inspects the hair.

The Wiedemann Mansion where the reception will take place. It is known as the venue with the view.

Lindsey and her Dad Rob talk as she gets ready at her childhood home. Rob gave Lindsey something blue for her wedding, the old blue dog tag from the family dog who has passed on. Lindsey attached it to her wedding bouquet.

Jess holds the blue dog tag and shares the memories of her dog.

More photos to come tomorrow.
