Seattle wedding photographer makes panoramic wedding portrait at the Columbia Tower Club

Jack Safar and Will Bean were married at the Columbia Tower Club  in August and after the ceremony we cleared the chairs and everybody posed for this large group wedding portrait.

I really love the Columbia Tower Club. the view is splendid on a clear day and we could fit 160+ people in one panoramic frame. The 12″ x 36″ print look spectacular as well.

Will Bean and Jack Safar  have been together for years. Last month, their happy mothers got to walk them down the isle at the Columbia Tower Club   where the two finally married, surrounded by family, friends and spectacular panoramic views of Seattle. Before the wedding ceremony, we had a nice time taking pictures around downtown with the skyline in the background, as well as at the renovated train station on King Street. It was a beautiful day full of joy; just one of all the obvious reasons why legal recognition of same-sex marriage by Washington and eighteen other states is a wonderful thing. Hopefully, same-sex couples everywhere will be able to enjoy the celebration of their love and commitment the same way soon.

Will and Jack were married in a same sex wedding cermony at the Columbia Tower Club

On Sunday I had the pleasure to photograph the wedding ceremony of Will Bean and Jack Safar on top of the tallest skyscraper in Seattle at the the Columbia Tower Club which has floor-to-ceiling picture windows featuring spectacular panoramic views of Seattle.

Before the wedding we took some pictures around town including some with the tower in the background. Throughout the day I could not help noticing that I was not the only one making photographs. I just started looking though the pictures and wanted to post a few images to preview the the rest to come when I finish up editing them all.

Thanks to Kelli Bielema of Shindig Events, for all of her delightful help at the wedding and to Tracey Salazar for being my second photographer.

Gay and lesbian couples get married on first day it is legal in Washington State group wedding

Marriage between gay people who love each other is still  not legal in most of the United States, but not anymore in Washington. On Dec. 9th, 2012, hundreds of gay and lesbian couples gathered  in Seattle and across the State to become husbands and wives. The historic MV Skansonia on Lake Union celebrated this amazing milestone by hosting complimentary multi-ceremony and a reception. Four couples chose to get married aboard the old ferry.

Posing  for a group photograph after their joint wedding ceremony, from left to tight: Richard Dunn and Charles McKeithen, Marsi Miyashita and Ruth Meyers, Kristoffer Walsh and Kyle Johnson and Katie Gotshall and Kerry Hagerty.

It was an emotional afternoon. It will be a while to go through them and edit them down so here are just a few highlights to preview the events of the day.

Near the end of the evening, Ruth and Marsi pose for a portrait with the city lights of Seattle sparkling across the waters of Lake Union. They met four years ago through mutual friends, and are planning to have a larger ceremony back where they live in California. Ruth  and Marsi were very excited to hear about about Washington State referendum 74 passing. They decided last Tuesday to elope and be a part of the historic first day. Myers can not wait to tell her kids one day of their participation in the history making event.

The very special event in support and celebration of Washington State referendum 74 passing to legalize same-sex marriage  was planned by the Director of Catering & Events at the Skansonia, Shauna Wu. She organized and invited all of the other sponsors to get involved and donate our services to celebrate the historic occasion. Thanks to all the sponsors aboard the ferry including Rev Ray Van Winkle who performed the service, photographer Brian Hartmann, of Photo Elan,  David LeClaire, of Wine World & Spirits,  Celeste Cooning made the fabulous cut paper backdrop,  Dann Richey, of MyDann.com and Emerald City Orchids, provided the boutonnieres/bouquets,  pastry chef Kathleen Baublits’s wedding cupcakes, from The Lake Union Cafe & Bakery, who provided the appetizers and the DJ providing the music by Music Man, Inc.
