Palinee Makchuchit and Michael Leslie pose for some Gas Works Park wedding photos in the morning before their wedding on board The MV Skansonia.
Linee and Michael were married on June 20th and when I got up in the morning it was grey but dry. Rain was in the forecast but it held off for a while. I met up with Michael and his groomsmen in Gas Works Park for some pictures. Linee and her bridesmaids were getting ready and were set to join us. They ran a little late and by the time they arrived it had started to mist and then come down a little harder. We went ahead and made some pictures anyway. I really like this above shot of the two of them with the blue umbrella with the Seattle skyline barely perceptible behind them through the fog.
Below are a dozen pictures of some of my favorite highlights and at the bottom a mini-gallery with a total of 36 images of their wedding day photographs.
A float plane takes off from Lake Union in the background as Michael and his groomsmen pose for a picture.
The fog came in and we headed off to the Skansonia to get ready for the wedding ceremony. One of the great things about the Skansonia is if the weather gets wet, the ceremony can be easily moved indoors without a hitch.

Megan O’Malley and Brian Lau were married on May 22nd at the beautiful vintage Mayflower Park Hotel in downtown Seattle where it is has been located for the past 82 years.
We started out doing some pictures at the Seattle Asian Art Museum and Volunteer Park on Capital Hill and the weather was fantastic. Later on when after we got to the hotel, the rain moved in and the rest of the evening we were indoors. After some more pictures we headed over to the Mayflower Park Hotel to get ready for the ceremony. I will post a few of the highlights and add some more in a web gallery at the bottom of this post.
After the end of the reception, Megan and Brian came out to the street for some fresh air before heading back into the walked back to the Mayflower Park Hote. For a more complete set of the highlights click on the web gallery below.

Wedding Photography at Mary and Michael’s Wedding at St. Joseph’s Church and The Willows Lodge
May 16th, 2010
The weather has been really nice this week and so it has been hard to stay in and edit photographs but I did manage to finish editing the wedding pictures of this wedding. Mary Bright and Michael Ferrante were married at St. Joseph’s Church in Issaquah on April 10th. It was a beautiful day for a northwest spring weekend wedding. I again had a great time photographing a wedding reception at The Willows Lodge in Woodinville, WA The garden at the Willows Lodge just across from the famous Herb Farm restaurant, is a great location and a perfect place for a wedding reception with great food. I also enjoyed the great music provided by the band Jazz Unlimited who played throughout the reception, including providing some good tunes to dance to. Here are a few photos to start and below is a web gallery with the complete set of 32 images I wanted to display to show off the highlights their wedding day.
Although most of the pictures were shot in digital format I did shoot three rolls of black and white film with my Leica and 35mm lens. I find I still love to see the crispness of the original negatives, even if I do then scan them and view them digitally. The grain of Tri-x has such a different look from a digital frame.

Mary and Michael wanted a wedding portrait with the ruins of this old tree in front of The Willows Lodge. It must have been a grand example of an old growth tree before it died.

The tables were beautifully set.

Earth Day 2010
April 23rd, 2010
The most detailed true-color image of the entire Earth created to date. Using a collection of satellite-based observations, scientists and visualizers stitched together months of observations of the land surface, oceans, sea ice, and clouds into a seamless, true-color mosaic of every square kilometer of our planet. Much of the information contained in this image came from a single remote-sensing device-NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS. Flying over 700 km above the Earth onboard the Terra satellite. (NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center)
Another Earth day has come to pass. The Boston Globe blog The Big Picture has an interesting post with photos taken around the planet leading off with this beautiful picture.
This panaramic large group wedding portrait shows everyone at Sheryl and Andy’s wedding in July, which was held at the wonderful The Ruins, one of the best kept wedding secret venues in Seattle. It looks plain and industrial on the outside but extravagant and opulent on the inside. All of the family and guest were invited to come outside so we could make their large group wedding panorama right on the sidewalk in front of the entrance to The Ruins. On a computer monitor, these panoramas look kind of puny compared to the original print I give Sheryl and Andy which measured 12″ x 36″. At that size you can clearly see all the detail of everyone in the photo. The Ruins is a most interesting venue with some really great food. It is mainly a private dining club. My first visit there was to photograph the rehearsal dinner for Conan O’Brien and his bride to be Liza Powel.

I had photographed Mollie and Justin’s engagement in the Seattle Arboretum last year and we had a good time walking around making pictures there and it was fun working with them. Months later then I again had a great time photographing their wedding at Willows Lodge in Woodinville, WA The garden at the Willows Lodge, which is just across from the famous Herb Farm restaurant, is a great location for an outdoor wedding and the ballroom perfect for a reception. Mollie and Justin had a warm, and wonderful wedding there. The wedding ceremony was in the gazebo which was really stunning and was adorned by a beautiful floral arrangement. I like shooting weddings there because there are so many places to go off and do pictures with different backgrounds. The panorama large group portrait was easy to do there as well. I will post it sometime later. Here are some selected highlights and a web gallery with some more just below.

Mollie and Justin asked me to shoot them with this sign for the thank you card they were planning to send out to their guests.

Olympic Sculpture Park Wedding Photography
January 5th, 2010

Jody and Mike at WAKE, in the Seattle Art Museum’s Olympic Sculpture Park.
Although Michael Zawacki and Judith Sanders were married at St. Benedict Church in Wallingford, in September and had their wedding reception at the Edgewater Hotel, we and their entire wedding party took a limo down to the Olympic Sculpture Park to make some bridal portraits and and photos of the wedding party using the sculptures fro a background. The photo above was one of my favorite wedding pictures from last year. The light was very nice just before sunset. It had been raining earlier but we had the usual sun breaks at just the right time for pictures. I have always loved the sculptures of Richard Serra the piece of his they have there, WAKE is one of my favorites. Wake, 2004, consists of 10 plates, 5 sets of locked toroid forms made of weatherproof steel. Back in the days when I was on staff at New York Newsday in the 1990’s, I was assigned to photograph Richard at the Museum of Modern Art and found him to be a wonderful person as well as an artist. There was an installation there that was interesting but I think seeing WAKE out in the open, under Seattle skies, it surpasses that presentation.
Anyway I made a number of portraits of Jody and Mike and the wedding party around WAKE and then we were breaking up and moving on to another location in the Garden when I noticed Jody and Mike stealing a kiss. Everyone one else appears in their own world by they are together in one of their own.
It was a great moment and seems like a good example of a wedding photograph that tells the story of their day in one moment. I had a call recently asking me if I had shot a wedding there so I wanted to put these up to show them off. Here are some of the other photos from our photo session at the park.

San Francisco Wedding Photography | Group Picture at Town Hall
January 5th, 2010
Connie Wong and Alex Wang were married on Sunday Dec 27th a little more than a week ago. The wedding and reception took place at a venerable old San Francisco institution called the Town Hall Restaurant. Towards the end of the evening we cleared out some tables and chairs and got everyone in attendance together for a large group wedding picture right there in the center of the restaurant. I shot a number of frames but these two seem to be the best as far as exposure and best number of people looking good.
This one above one is cropped a little too tight on the here, but the original has all the details. Which one looks best to you?
You are welcome to leave comments below. Some time over the coming weeks when the editing and processing is done, I will post a gallery of the highlights of this fun San Francisco wedding here on the blog. This picture reminds me how fantastic the food at the Town Hall Restaurant tasted. Check it out next time you are in San Francisci. It is at 342 Howard Street, S.F. CA 415.908.3611.
